What up bird peeps!?
This spring's crop of chicks are growing up fast! I don't know how it is where yall are, but here in middle TN the TSC baby situation is ROUGH. They're only in small batches, and they're gone in 30 mins. It's like Pokémon. You gotta be quick.
Anyway, I managed to score one single "Americana" - which I am calling an Easter Egger - Pullet. *ALLEGEDLY*
'Her' comb is much redder than the Lavender Orpington's that is the same age. I am very nervous that she might be a He. I really wanted some Easter eggers to add color to the egg basket. I will be terribly disappointed if the one I got ends up being a dude.
It is too early to tell. For sure.
But speculating is what we do here, so. Thoughtsies?

P.S. if anyone remembers from way back, I did find new homes for all of the extra boys! They're all happy and thriving with their own new flocks.

Feather pattern and comb says cockerel, sorry
Edit:
To clarify, his uneven pattern with red splotches is an indication that he's a cockerel

Age and better picture of comb and wattles, please. Others might be able to tell from color pattern, but I'm still learning how that works.

Cockerel. now is not the time to buy chicks, unfortunately.
Hatcheries are just going up in fire with trying to keep up with demand.
I've been waiting for sebrights, there have been nothing by bantam cochins.

10 weeks, roughly. It's definitely not as red, and has almost no wattles compared to my RIR × OE roos were at this age.
I do not really trust the feather sexing for mixed up breeds. I know it's pretty dependable, but I don't fully trust it yet.

I have done pretty well. Just teeny tiny batches. One EE, one Gold Laced Wyandotte, one Lavender Orp, and 4 Brahmas. All allegedly pullets. But you know how that goes.

Oh, I wasn't speaking of feather sexing. Different color patterns are male or female specific. In general females will have a fairly even pattern while males will be uneven and may even have splotches of red. The color pattern on your bird both uneven and has red splotches

RIRs tend to have large straight combs that develop early. Your bird has a pea comb which doesn't get very big and it's pretty red for an EE that age

Certainly no harm in waiting in any case
