Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Got my FIRST EE egg from the one almost everyone told me was a rooster! So glad I didn't get rid of her. :D

It's the middle one! :)

With easter eggers, its always a guess on their sex, colors tell you a lot about sex, but when it comes to mix breeds I found even roo's look like hens and hens can look like roo's...even most avid breeders will tell you the same...I have six 5 month olds, every time I think ones a hen, and ones a rooster they do something to leave me guessing again, waiting on the first egg from these too, so I know where to house them. EE are the funniest creatures I have ever seen. Its almost like they are trying to figure you out, while your trying to figure them out. To bad they could not be a true breed they are so much fun to have and watch. Yours has some very nice feathering. Congratulation on it being a hen!

I think with EE the only true way to sex them is by vent, not color, or comb, or just wait to see if they lay an egg..

Thanks! She has become very beautiful and is settling down quite a bit, which is really nice. She had me fooled for a while too. I think it's crazy ironic that she is actually the first one of my EE group to start laying! :p

x2! SHE'S very pretty.

This year my own EE pullets were the 1st to mature as well. One at 17 weeks & the other at 18 weeks. We sold their siblings, but many reported back with similar stories. All my purebreds took 23 weeks up to still waiting on my Orpintons (now 27 weeks)

Thanks Faraday!! I actually think you were one of the few people that thought pullet when I asked, so that's a win for you! ;)
