I wanted to share my tunnel setup, that might be helpful for folks that need a middle ground between their birds free ranging & keeping them contain, without sacrificing them getting fresh greens.
This setup will only work for urban areas, that don't have coyotes or foxes, since its not a permanent structure. Only daily predators I have are hawks, and they have not tried getting the birds while they are in the tunnel for just over a year.
I move the tunnel every week, after moving the tunnel I rake, wash the poop down & then re-seed with Poultry Seed (https://www.naturesseed.com/pasture-seed/poultry-pastures/) that contains White Dutch Clover, Red Clover, Crimson Clover, Buckwheat, Strawberry Clover & Common Flax. You might have different type of seeds for your region, I am in the South.
The tunnel I bought from (https://www.greenhousemegastore.com...ant-easy-net-tunnel?dfw_tracker=43186-CF-SSNT), and its only 36 bucks. I have had it for almost 2 years now, and it's still in great condition. You only need to buy some garden stakes to add to the base of the tunnel to keep it secure.
As you can see in the pictures, the girls will leave the ground bared, after 1 week. You can also see the progression of growth from the other previously used sections. The seeds grow quickly & don't need much care at all.
For me, this has been the best way to give the girls access to greens, without having to supervise their free range, worrying they will get into the garden beds or the hawks swooping them up.
Again, this will not work for areas that have REAL daylight predators (Foxes, Coyotes, Bobcats, etc.), since the tunnel is made out of mesh, but it has worked great for my urban setup.
