I am getting anywhere from 4 to 8 eggs a day from my two groups of hens and it seems I am breaking more than I should since I have not decided on an egg basket yet and use my hands or pockets. What's your favorite egg "basket" and why? I may just stop in at the dollar store and grab an Easter Basket and have a brightly colored basket until I can decide for sure.

After breaking an egg collecting five of them, I've decided to use a basket. You can buy them from thrifty discount stores. Mine can contain upto a 10 eggs.

I use egg cartons.

After having eggs tumble in the basket, break in my hands or shirt - I tried using a plain ol egg carton, and so far it works. They stay snug and fit, and if I collect more than a dozen, I always have a spare carton hidden underneath the first.

I use an ice cream bucket or one of the big plastic Folgers coffee cans. For me, they are free and they work. I use the Folgers coffee cans for everything. They make excellent feed scoops too.

Well, I am glad I am not the only here who is seen walking across the yard with a plastic coffee can!! I use a maxwell house can with an old rag in the bottom of the can to give the eggs something to lay on so they are not just rolling around in the can. My husband tried to get me to buy a basket several times but I am like why pay for something when I am using somethting I already had on hand! My grandfather used old cans for several things, such as feed scoops, eggs baskets, and storage containers for nails.

I have a really pretty wicker and wire basket that was given to me a long time ago. It's cherry colored with gold wire around the top. This is what I am going to use when my hens are laying enough. Just got my first egg yesterday!!! The reason I choose it is because it matches my decor and will look really nice full of eggs on my counter!

I use one of those plastic jack o lanterns kids put candy in at Halloween. Mine started laying in Novemebr. That is what I happened to grab and have used it ever since.
