Egg color question

We have two Ameraucauna hens who are less than a year old. They lay lovely huge (but white) eggs. We had Easter Egger hens before who started out laying white eggs but later they started laying colored ones. Will this be the case with our Ameraucauna hens? Or do they have some cross breeding we don't know about that might be affecting the egg color? They look pure bred to me. I am dissapointed as a lot of our egg customers love the variety of color in the eggs we sell. (We do, too!!

Ameraucauna's can lay white eggs...some will lay blue' green' olive drab' turquoise' baege' grey' pink' brown...and colors inbetween....i have a few that will lay white eggs..Ameraucauna's are a mutt chicken....if you want a true blue egg layer you might want to see if you can find......araucana's they are rumpless and or tuffeed.. lots of people get the two breeds mixed up.......araucana and Ameraucauna's are two different breeds.. but Ameraucauna's do have araucana blood in them thats where they usuly get there egg color...hatcherys sell Ameraucauna's as araucana...knowing that poeple dont know the difference

Cleveryou, you are right about hatcheries selling Ameraucaunas as a Auracaunas, but Ameraucaunas are not a mix, they're a pure breed recognised by the American Poultry Association since 1980. Easter-Eggers are a mixede breed, and this is what most hatcheries are selling as Amer/Aucaunas.
