So for the last 2 days, one of my hens has laid a "different" looking egg. It is kind of flat on one side and there is a "spot" in the middle on one side. The hen is about 10 months and has never been a great layer, but recently seems to have picked up her production. She is acting fine - eating, scratching, busy, etc. I am attaching a photo - would appreciate any input!! Thank You!!

I think it looks like a double yolker but it could be the camera angle. Is it bigger than normal?

My 11 month old RIR lays these almost every single time she lays. I'd love to see if anyone else has chickens that lay these too! I have a friend who rescues birds. I told her about BB and how she lays these eggs, she always used to have a poopy butt because she didn't squat to poo, and she was soooo weak as a chick (if we knew anything about chickens at the time, we should have culled her probably). She says that BB is calcium deficient and probably was born that was and had a calcium deficient mother too. I give my girls plenty of oyster shells, I try to get extra calcium into BB when I can and it seems to help occasionally but I can't tell if it's just a fluke that she didn't lay a weird egg.

If anyone else knows the answer to this, please let know! I have tried to watch BB lay an egg to see if there's a vent issue but she puts her butt down on the floor entirely pretty much and makes terrible farting noises when she lays sometimes!

More details... "Pumpkin" was in my garden yesterday when I watched her lay one of these eggs....she was standing up and some poop came out (a little runny) before the egg. She looked like she was going to lay and only poop would come out. Then she gave a big push and one of these funny eggs plopped out. Is it normal to poop and lay @ the same time?

Another update.....today around 3:30 I noticed Pumpkin in the egg box - shortly after, she came out but no egg. Then I noticed her walking around, straining as though she wanted to lay. This went on for about an hour and then I brought her inside and put her in a warm bath for 30 min. No egg. Took her out and sat her on my lap in a towel; she continued to strain. FINALLY, around 6pm she laid her egg. Egg looks similar to above.

Is/was she egg bound? Her abdomen still feels large to me and she seemed to be straining AGAIN (she is now in the house in a cat carrier where I can watch her). Shes eating & walking around now and acting fine What's going on??
