Anyone ever seen eggs with the white thing attached to yolk? I have been having trouble hatching white cochin egg 6 hens out of the last 3 months incubating every egg 4 has hatched. i just had my fav hen die a frizzle and had about 2 dozen eggs laid before she died was hoping one to look like her. None formed. Was cracking them open and 7 eggs did not have any or very little. Anything I can do to help? Why is this happening?

Were the eggs fertile? BTW: the white thing is the chalaza. It keeps the yolk steady, a good thing in incubation.

Fertility decreases with the age of the egg. The chalaza tends to disappear with age. Were they refrigerated? Again that decreases the fertility.

A while back I went a round with someone who said that all breeds' egg chalaza has the same appearance or thickness. I said some have a lighter chalaza. I'm not sure who's right on that.
