Emu Egg Hatch-along

How old are they?
That's awesome.

No wiggles from egg #2 today. 😞
If you have any extra fertile eggs just laying around you aren't doing anything with let me know, lol.
I hope mine is still good, but I watched it for quite a while today and nothing. It's still on track for weight though. Idk 😩
Praying it makes it to hatch day!

Nothing is happening with Baby D. I think the wiggles are diminishing and it's breaking my heart. 😢 I reached out to a couple other emu breeders and they all confirm that if it has not internally pipped and I try to intervene it will likely not make it even so and it probably hasn't absorbed the yolk since that is part of the final stage of hatch after the internal pip. Possible leg deformity or other setback that isn't allowing it to even break through the internal membrane. They also point out that if I do choose to assist an internally unpipped chick that I have to be willing to cull because it will more than likely have a troubled and short life. Again, this is all based on their experience, but obviously they have way more than I do. This is just so sad.

I think I'd try to help it. It's at least giving it a chance. I think it's chances are just about zero staying in the egg if it hasn't made and progress by now.

I'd do it off center and on the side a bit. Probably about here. See which end wants to stay up when you sit it on its side and do it on the top. The draw down area is usually there.

@MGG well the deed is done. It was another little blonde baby and it was malpositioned with only partially absorbed egg yolk. It looks to have tried to pip at the bottom of the egg based on some staining on the shell. 😢😔

Well at least now I know there's probably nothing I could have done to save it. I opened up baby f as well and there was definitely a developing embryo I would say maybe about 30 days old obviously deceased. I almost opened the other two because I'm 99.9% sure but as I've said they're not stinking or oozing so we'll wait a little longer. I think it's day 35 tomorrow.

So now I get to be thankful for these two Little Cuties I have and enjoy them. I sure hope and pray when I send off for DNA I don't have two girls. I'd rather two boys or a pair.

On another note, it's not a very good bird day around here for me. I bought four gorgeous show quality Sebastopol geese last May. Two were straight run and two were gray Saddleback females. Well it turns out in the pairing that produces Saddleback females there's like a .05% chance of it being a male. I had my suspicions a month or so ago, but today it was confirmed when I saw him mating, which female sometimes do, but there was also a penis!! Grrrrr! Had I known at the time of purchase there was even a slight chance of them being male I wouldn't have bought them. They were a last-minute impulse because they were available and I was told they were females. So once again I have two girls and four boys. I just rehomed three boys so you see where I'm at🤦‍♀️
