Hey guys!
I'm gathering as much information as possible on what people use for emu housing and pen designs.

My bright idea on the housing and the pen is that I'm going to use one of my available horse stalls for their shelter, the stalls are 12' X 12'. The stall I plan on using is already in use by my peacock and guineas, but they're ready to be allowed to free range.
There is a part of horse pasture outside of the stall that we don't use. It's decent sized. I'd say its a good start for little emus. The posts are already up so all I have to do is buy the fencing and wrap that around.
The only thing about the pasture is that its muddy, but we also allow some of the horses access to it, so that doesnt help. So as soon as I section the pen off from the horses I plan on getting some of the mud out of it and planting grass.

What do you guys use for your emus?
Post some pictures! I'd love to see what you guys have!
Also is there any plants or trees that I could plant in their pen? Like a bush so that if they wanted to lay outside in the sun they'd have shade?

Although it does seem quite logical to post this question in the coop construction part of the forum, can I suggest you ask the mods to move it (or just start a new thread) over in the Ostriches, Emus, Rheas part of the forum, as those folks don't seem to come to this part much so may not even *see* the thread.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat, who finds emus kind of scary big although awful pretty in an odd way

I see you!, I see you!... The folks over in the Emu area are really great, so I'm sure they can answer some of your questions!..

Congrats on getting Emus!.. They are amazing!.. I for one had the same set up it seems that you are talking about. I had a full grown Emu, and she did quite well with it. I lost her to a Mountain Lion who jumped a 6 foot wall to get into her stall. She was also lame, so she could not defend herself.. Just keep the preditor thing in mind.. They also love water!..

Come on over to the Emu area and join us!.. there are lots of pictures posted over there..
