There was no movement, in the end after a quick opening to see what went wrong, 5 were rotten and 1 was drowned šŸ˜ž

My hen hatched her first two chicks from this very large batch of eggs, about 17 to begin with.. I candled the eggs realizing she has not been returning to the nest for two maybe three days now.. the eggs are ice cold but I found 4 that look like they could have hatched had she come back.
These eggs are ice cold... should I attempt hatching them in an incubator? Or just let it be and move on?

depends on how long they've been out. personally, i've had eggs i thought were long gone hatch.

(my story is that i had a broody hen, we let her hatch some eggs, and a few days before hatch day, my grandma accidentally collected my hen's eggs with all the other eggs. we found them far into the next day, thought they were both gone, but decided to give it a try. a few days later, BOTH hatched. one died young, but the other is still alive and well. her name is rose and her birthday was actually just a few days ago)

so yeah, you should be good to throw them back into the incubator, as long as it hasnt been more than a day. :)

Aw thank you, this is good to know for my other hens.
These eggs were definitely unnoticed for too long I went to a darker room to check them along with a tap check, upon closer inspection I noticed one had actually tried to pip but didn't make it past the air pocket.
They were definitely too far gone so I decided to open them and see what went wrong, 5 were rotten and the 6th was an about to pip chick but poor baby seemed like it had drowned šŸ˜”

I will definitely keep your and Roses story in mind for any future incidents though, thank you!

ah, im sorry that they didnt make it.
on the bright side, if you still want chicks, you get the chance to either
a- try again and go thru the fun process of hatching again
or b- go and buy some bucketlist breeds that youve wanted for a while
:)
