This is a post of pure joy, anticipation and excitement.

I am picking up 3 black sexlink, 3 white austras, and one Bielefelder in the morning. My grandpa (who is secretly a chicken lover underneath his tough guy persona) will be joining me for the one hour drive to the hatchery.

I worry I won't sleep tonight, but please wish me dreams of happy chicks if I do get some shut eye 🥰🐥

I have shared my excitement with everyone I know, and they cannot match my passion. I figured this would be the place to find other people in the same boat as me 🫶

Congratulations! I was up early with new chick excitement on Tuesday because we were driving 2 hours to pick up chicks, so I get it!
How fun! Did you do anything special to keep them comfortable on the drive? How are they doing? How many and what breed?

Not really. It was a warm sunny day and our car has a large sun roof, so I took the lid off the box and moved it so it was in the sunlight. We did bump the ac up to about 73° Initially I was scheduled to work and husband was planning on stuffing an old sock with rice and microwaving it before he left the house, but it really wasn't necessary.

The breed is malines ( a rare, in the US at least, Belgian breed). We bought 6 and they included an extra so we have a total of 7. We've had a little poopy butt (not pasty, stools are normal just sticking a bit) but otherwise they're doing great. They're very personable chicks! As soon as I stick my hand into the brooder they're right there, even if I've just "traumatized" them by cleaning their butts.

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for the picture 😍😍 They look so happy! I am so glad to hear that travels went well and they are settling in to being sweet & loving chickens 🥰🥰
