Don’t really know what to call it; but we all get the point.

My question is; will it fix itself or will she die?
At first I though it was sick; smearing the exit as when they get yeast infection. But I was wrong.

I Don’t know how it could have happened either; all my chicks are very healthy.

It is a prolapsed cloaca. You may see the 3 openings for the intestines, kidney waste and oviduct. Keep it moist with honey or a half and half sugar water mixture, or a nontoxic oil until you can push it back inside. Make sure that she is pooping, and also feel for a stuck egg. It can happen with or without egg binding, dehydration, or low calcium level. Here is some reading:

Poor baby.

When we had our first hot spell, I noticed my chicken had poo on her butt feathers. When I went to clip the poop off, her vent was protruding but then went back in on its own. I started them on Rooster Booster Electrolytes and now everyone seems to have stopped the dirty butts. Hopefully dehydration was my issue.

Dirty butts are a sign of yeast infection. That happened often when feeding Dumor layer feed.

Now I feed my flock “Knock out” a variety of seeds and pellets along with calcium from oyster shells now. I buy it at wild horse track feed supply. Never had dirty butts again; 2 years now.

Did you feel for a stuck egg inside the prolapse or were you able to push it back inside? You can temporarily stop laying if you want, to help the vent heal. That involves keeping them in a dark room or covered dog crate where they only have 8 hours of daylight to eat drink, and walk around. The other 16 hours are spent in darkness, which in summertime is hard to accomplish without overheating. Vent gleet, egg binding, and constipation can be root causes of a prolapse.
