I could really use some help! We noticed one of our birds looking lethargic, intermittently standing and then stopping to sit, and closing one eye about a week ago. We isolated her thinking she might be egg bound. She has passed eggs since, but they’ve become super brittle and thin. Over the course of the week, she has worsened. She has had intermittent green diarrhea, and her cornea is completely cloudy (pic attached) I’m trying to syringe feed her some egg yolks, give her calcium supplements, and provide her with warm epsom salt baths. I also decided to give Corid thinking that it might be coccidiosis. Since giving that yesterday, her green poops have stopped.

I am hesistant to think Marek’s because she is not experiencing any paralysis at all.

Any info would be so helpful!

The green poop was likely from not eating. Ocular Mareks doesn’t cause paralysis I don’t believe. But the cloudy eye is suspicious. What does her pupil look like?

Thanks for replying! That’s good to know. That picture actually is her pupil. Although it looks like her eyelid, it is actually her eye. Her eye was
Closed for several days, and finally after using saline flushes and warm compresses on her eyelid, she was able to open it today and that’s what it looks like. I did give her an antibiotic/steroid eye drop.

I know they say terramycin ointment is best for any eye infections. You could always treat it as an infection and see if it gets better.
Flushing it was a good idea and you may need to do it again if it tries to close again.
It sounds like you’re taking good care of her ❤️

Welcome To BYC

Can you get a clearer photo of the eye? It looks like pus is in the eye.

How long have you had her?
Any symptoms of respiratory illness?

Corid won't hurt her even if Coccidiosis isn't the issue.
Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Do not add any extra vitamins/electrolytes that contain B1(Thiamine) to food or water during the course of treatment.

If her shell quality is off then give her 1 Calcium Citrate+D3 tablet once daily for 3 days to see if that makes a difference.

Attached is a new photo, the best I could do haha. I’ve been giving her antibiotic eye drops for three days now and she is opening her eye significantly more, her energy is back, and she is eating and drinking! I’m so glad to see her in better spirits. I have a vet appointment for her on Thursday because I think you are right, it looks like pus. So gross. Not sure what they’ll be able to do for her, but I’ll try!

I'm glad you'll be able to see a vet, keep us posted on how it goes.
