Eye ointment recommendations- please?

Terramycin, Vetericyn Opthalmalic gel or Durvets antimicrobial pink eye solution. Most farm stores carry them. Terramycin might require a prescription now. It used to be over the counter, but they have been really cracking down on any antibiotics so the Vetericyn or Durvets might be you only option without a vet.

Terramycin (which may not be sold in every state) is very good, but I have used plain Neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment in a pinch. There is also Polysporin eye drops as well. Vetericyn eye wash, saline, and Bausch and Lomb Eye Relief Eye Wash can be used to rinse the eyes. Do you have any pictures of the eye? Is the eye swollen or have bubbles in it?

Thank you SO much!! I ended up finding the Vetericyn eye kit at my local Tractor Supply store. I’ve already given my chick two doses. Does the gel need to be directly on the eye? I can’t open my girl’s eyelids for the life of me. I can’t have a good hold on her head to keep her from cringing away, and I’m afraid of being too rough. I’ve been spreading the gel all over her lid, and hoping that it’ll reach the eye. Do you think that is effective enough?

Thank you very much!! I do not have a picture of my chick’s eyes at the moment, but I found pictures off Google that look similar. There’s no bubbles in her eyes but they’re noticeably watery, and after I apply the gel, they look inflamed and angry. I’m concerned that the gel isn’t reaching her eye as I’m having to spread it all over her eyelids because I can’t get her eyes to stay open for me to directly apply it.

Yes the ointment or gel needs to be put directly into the eye. Pull down on the eyelid and put it into the pouch and release. The first picture looks like bubbles and conjunctivitis which could be from MG infection, a respiratory disease. Have you added any new birds lately? You may also want to treat her with Tylosin in her water 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. Jedds and this place have it:

Thank you so much for your comment!! I worked with the chick and finally got the gel in her eyes. All of the chicks are from the same place (Tractor Supply) and I haven’t added any new birds recently. Thank you so much for the resource! I want to do everything I can to help her feel better

I hope that she gets along well. I once had a hen who exhibited the foam in her eyes, and it would come and go. I treated her, but she always would get it occasionally in cool weather.
