My baby pekin (~ 6 mks) was attacked by grown-up ducks (we suspect). This was the second time. We caught it the first time and were able to get to her before too much damage. This time they did a number on her head. We went to the vet who recommended Betadine with water (1 to 3). The vet said it was more mild for the eyes, since the injuries are also over her right eye. I saw "eyewash" in the sticky for the first aid kit. Can anyone be more specific? Is this just a saline flush? And where do I get any specific products? Also, I read something about using products without the analgesics? How are they harmful to the ducks - by ingestion? and would that also include any sprays - Lanacaine?

1. Yes it's usually just a saline solution to rinse the eyes.

2. I would look at the wound to make sure there are not any maggots or any other bugs.

3. I would put neosporin on the head wound or Blue Kote.

4. I personally would bandage the wound to prevent infection

5. Are you keeping her inside or out? I defiantly would try to make sure the wound doesn't get wet until it starts healing some.

However, Amiga is in my opinion one of our best emergency gurus so hopefully she can help you with more information and treatment ideas

Thank you. She is was inside the house the night it happened and the next night also. Now she is in our garage. She doesn't like it - being inside. She wants back with her flock mates.

Yea ducks do tend to miss flock mates but luckily they are truly remarkable healers and should be out there in no time!
