We have a baby chick (the one with purple) that’s not growing.

We had two hens that hatched one egg each, one week apart. The first chick to hatch is with the hen and growing well. However the second chick was pecked at by the mother causing the chick to bleed severely and we weren’t sure if the chick would survive through the night. We separated the chick. We discovered that the hen and baby chick had lice. So we treated everyone.

The baby chick that was injured was alone and my brother felt bad so he got it a companion that was a few days younger. Fast forward to now 2 weeks later and the injured chick is doing better. The wound is closed but there’s no growth in size. It’s younger companion has surpassed in size.

We’re not sure how to support this little one or what it’s life will look like.

How I best support this baby chick?

Pictures include:
1. First baby chick with hen.
2. Injured chick and companion.

Do you think the chick lost enough blood that it would have caused anemia? Maybe that’s why she isn’t growing?
It was a lot of blood that we were sure the chick would die that night, but she’s holding on strong. We added electrolytes to their water 2 wks ago, but she isn’t interested in eating/drinking and is lethargic as of a couple of days.

She was energetic for a few days, but now her energy level is going down.

Try giving it some kefir, or yogurt if you can't find kefir. Just a 1/2 teaspoon once or twice a day. If you give yogurt, make sure it has the most probiotics.
