Okay, finally took some pics of the OEGB chicks, and also checked their hatch date. Born on Dec 14-15, so just under 4 weeks old.
The verdict is... disappointing. Three cockerels, two pullets. The two Splash are male, as well as on of the Lemon Blue. So one Lemon Blue and one Black Gold are female.
First, the boys:
This is the Lemon Blue. Comb large and reddening up. Yellow coming in strong. Gentle and easy to handle.
First Splash 'sport', I suspected he was a he when I saw the scabs on his comb. Also a gentle personality.
I suspect this is the culprit that gave the other Splash the scabs! very feisty, he's got attitude. And VERY precocious! I'm now wondering if HE is the one I hear tentatively crowing in the morning!
This is the Gold Black. Barely a hint of comb, and she has finer features than the boys. Gentle but a bit fearful. (I don't handle them.)
And the Lemon Blue. Again, hardly a hint of comb, and the finer look to her. VERY skittish. Looks like she'll have nice lacing though.
I had hoped that the Gold Black would be male, but of course my luck didn't pan out. It will be interesting to see how the Splash turn out!
And as is the norm for me, more males than females. The only exception so far were the Red Pyle (which are not laying) where I got five females and one male, but that may have been the luck of the draw when I bought them as chicks.
DEFINITELY NOT the Splash cockerel who's crowing. I was up at the ungodly hour of 5 am this morning, after a horrible sleep(less) night, and was able to tell that it was for sure coming from outside. So, it has to be the older OEGB hen... WEIRD!
