Favorite breed

So far I really like Plymouth Rock, Buckeye, and Salmon Faverolles the best because of how hardy they are for our climate and just in general. Tough chickens. Solid layers.

Also, I love Cornish Xs for meat. They get a bad rap, but when raised correctly, they are great birds. They have very docile personalities as well.

I have 5 different breeds, it's hard to pick tho. My Silkie hen stands out for many reasons, which is weird. I love the personality of all of them, I think I got lucky. Even my rooster is awesome!

These are the breeds I keep... 5Hens/1Roo
White Silkie (Rooster &Hen), Blue Laced Golden Wyandotte, Barred Rock, Lavender Orpington, Spotted Sussex

We have (or have had) Dark Brahma, Buff Orpington, Cuckoo Marans, Delawares, Barred Rocks, OEGBs, Ameraucanas, Australorps, Golden Comets, BSL, Starlight Green Eggers and EEs. Our favorite is the Ameraucanas. They have so much character and are so friendly, also very predator aware. Golden Comets would be our 2nd pick, they were hands down just as friendly as our Ameraucanas. Super surprisingly our OEGBs would tie in 2nd place as well. I smile every time I hear our little dude sing 😁. Most of our EEs are hatchery stock and are so so. They will run up & greet us, fly up onto our shoulders, but heaven forbid if you touch them 😂 The EEs we hatched (Ameraucana x Cinnamon Queen) are super friendly AND will let you touch them or hold them!! Hope this helps :)

My Pekin bantams, D’Uccles, OEGB, Orpingtons, RIR, Plymouth Rocks and my California Tans are all of my favorites i’ve owned. My Pekins lay medium eggs and my California Tans lay jumbo eggs. I have a couple pictures of them too!
