My Coop
My Coop
2 year old Welsummer rooster.
Has been tip toeing a little bit but he hides it pretty well now for some time.
Would say its been several months.
Only bird in the flock that has this weird elephant toe like growth
Free ranges daily, eats normal, poop looks normal nothing stands out.
Bedding in coop if hardwood mulch but since they free range, they are not on it much.

I would think if it is SLM, that it would be all over and not just isolated to a couple toes. You can see one to in the middle, may that be like a callus?

Thank you in advance

It looks more like foot pad dermatitis or bumblefoot. What is the bedding like in the coop and run? Has it been muddy? I would soak the feet in warm water daily with Epsom salts, Betadine, or Dawn soap. There is also something called Sugardine paste: Betadine or povidone iodine and sugar paste mixed in a bowl. You paint that on a 2x2 dressing, and apply with with some tape or vet wrap for 2 days. Then you change the dressing and start over, changing it every 2 days. Eventually, it hopefully will soften where you can open the scab and squeeze out any solid pus inside.
