Everyone thought Harold was Madge.. even I had come to terms with it lol... but I went out today, as the snow had stopped and spent some time with him, more so than the past couple of weeks, as winter is here, and dark nights starting early, so seems to be dark when I get in from work, and all animals are locked up for me by the kids. So my shock at today when suddenly my Madge is strutting and a gobbling excitedly at me, probably because I have not been around in the day for a few weeks, due to work commitments. Bless I did not think he would miss me so much lol. And his snood my god, I thought nah that could not have grew so big in such a short time, so I thought maybe a sickness.. silly me.... I must say as I have said on many occasions I LOVE MY TURKEY lol... So much so I have my christmas dinner ordered from the butchers, who cannot understand why, when I have one in my garden..... They think I have gone mad lol... Oh well...
It can be hard to bring yourself to butcher some sometimes. That's why you need a bunch of them and usually you will have a few that act up. Your turkey is for sure a RP Tom!

Yeah I agree I have a cockeral that needs to go, but I cannot seem to get rid of it, it is so hard to rehome cockerals, I cant keep it but I cant butcher it either.... it is a lovely cockeral, not aggressive or anything, so it makes it hard to think about it being sunday dinner lol. Thanks for your input, I would love loads of turkeys but my partner wont let me have any more lol.
ahh I see the hens have less black on them... Harold seemed to always have alot of black in his feathers. Yes I must agree the RP are spectacular looking birds, everyone laughed at me for getting a turkey, telling me how ugly they are, but they have soon changed their tunes since seeing harold, saying they have never seen a turkey so lovely
i have 2 nantucket hens and 1 tom. my hens are 2 years old and the tom is a year and a half. So ALL fully grown ok.. my hens strut and tail feathers fan out like the tom and trys to gobble and acts just like my tom then will go lay a egg, but now have not lay eggs for over 4 months that i know of. i have been raising turkeys for years and never seen this before. So it does happen so dont let anybody tell you it doesnt. i have pictures if you would like to see them
