Hi all! I’ve been begging my husband for chickens for 6 years and he finally relented! I bought a “Chick-Inn” coop and run at Rural King and it’s a bit smaller than I anticipated; it says it’ll house up to three chickens comfortably. I’ll likely extend the run using some scrap lumber and chicken wire lying around in my shed. Depending on how many of my 6 chicks I keep, I’ll also likely extend the coop out at the back for more roost room.
I’m from Central KY and have been all my life! I love it!

1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? My family had Rhode Island Reds when I was a kid and I absolutely loved them!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 6 bantam chicks

(3) What breeds do you have? Not sure... TSC only said “various assorted bantam chicks”

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Cute chicks, quirky chicken personalities, and eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Reading, drawing, gaming

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I’m starting cosmetology school this month, raising my two young daughters with my husband, have a Great Dane and a Boston Terrier, and am now a chicken mommy!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D Google searched “backyard chickens 101,” only about 3 days, seems like good people with knowledge that may help me down the road
