Bought and hatched out 'assorted cotournix quail;rare varieties'
Never hatched quail before, and curious as to what we ended up with...

Any thoughts as to why one quail is so much smaller than the others. She's almost completely white super sweet but 2/3 rds the size of all the others

Could be a homozygous silver, they tend to have issues, many die in shell or have deformities. I’ve got a 2 week old brood from shipped eggs and one Tibetan is half the size of the others, seems to have a mild wry neck, deformed and mutant chicks seem to be fairly common in shipped eggs as well.

I'm not sure how to know the difference between Jumbo and normal, but will try to look it up.

I agree shipped eggs seem to be trouble.
This little lady seems perfectly healthy and is immensely sweet. Just petite

I’ve got a two week old Tibetan you can have, start your own breed of dwarf quail…but I think he’s a wry neck so it wouldn’t be genetic, his name is Humphrey and I don’t know what to do with him, but cute!
