It is advisable in order to prevent the new bird from transmitting any parasites it might carry to your own flock or infest your coop and yard.

If you are living in the U.S. you can get dewormer ( Safeguard or Valbazen) at your local feed store as well as permethrin dust or spray for external parasites like mites or lice.
