I feel like I'm addicted to chickens...!!!:love

Anyways, just this past Sunday I popped 72 eggs into the incubator!

I'm using a Brinsea Ovaeasy 100. This thing has been amazing and I'm almost always at a high hatch/success rate. The last round i did only had 2 eggs out of 54 that didn't hatch. Best investment ever!

Because its been super rainy here and I had a couple eggs laid in mud, I had to do a bit of washing.

And despite the belief that it ruins success, I'm happy to say with as many rounds I've had with successful hatching, washing eggs doesn't make a difference for me. I run the eggs briefly through warm water and rub out any debris. Of course, I only wash if I need to. Here is to hoping I still get a good hatch this time around!

I have 4 Roos out with my many hens, so these eggs are all mostly barnyard mixes. I'm obsessed with Easter eggers and blue feathers, so I'm hoping for more blue babies!:fl

Very cool!
I just hatched some French Golden Cuckoo Marans, and 55 Flowery Hens. As soon as they where removed from the incubator and it was clean I started a dozen each of D'uccle and Phoenix.

Best of luck on your hatch! :D
Feel free to share pics! I really do like how the flowery hens look! And I looove D'uccles. Good luck on their hatch :D

I always wash my eggs, whether they're a little bit dirty, or really dirty. A lot of the time I just rinse my clean eggs off. I wash in cold water.

I've read about washing in cold water, but then I've also read that warm water helps push out bacteria? I think when I first started washing eggs I used cold water too with good results. I just try to avoid really hot water of course, I'm scared to kill the chick!

Washing in cold, & hot water made no difference in my hatches really. New studies say that it doesn't matter what the water temperature is when washing your hands for example. Hot, warm, or cold it's your choice to choose water temperature to kill bacteria.
I've had lots of good hatches with cold washed eggs. Most of which were also refrigerated.

Yea I also read today someone hatched refrigerated eggs! Really cool. I had no clue it could be done when they were kept so cold.

It's day 5 and I candled all eggs this morning. All eggs but 1 were definitely alive and fertile!

Now I'm down to 71 Eggs.

Here are some candling pics!

This very last one had me guessing! I saw veins but couldn't see the embryo... I was at first thinking it died early.. But it did pop up later! So it was still good to me :)
