(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Got our first chickens 2 weeks ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 4 beautiful laying hens (Big Helen, Geraldine, Jo-Jessica, and Doris).
(3) What breeds do you have?
They are all Black Stars less than a year old.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching the chickens and learning their personalities...and the eggs are delish!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Scuba diving, cycling, hiking, backpacking, bike touring, RVing, gardening and travel.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Recently retired after a successful 33 year military career. Amy and I have a standard poodle (Harlow) and a golden doodle (Merci) that share our paradise in the rolling hills of the Bluegrass.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
A friend of mine who raises chickens directed me to this site after I expressed an interest in raising some of my own. I used BYC as an inspiration for my coop design and build.
