First time duck owner

My pekin randomly lay where ever the egg drops lol. I have noticed they will pile eggs into a goose nest tho, so its worth a shot. put some golf balls or fake eggs in there.

I made it today! It's in their coop now! I might just try that! Im tempted to sneak down there now that its dark to see if theyre in it! Lol! The banties both went right into it like it was awesome to them! Lol! The CX seemed to like it too so we'll see! The duck always lays her egg during the night so ill know in the morning if she decided to lay an egg in there!

Here's a pic of the bed/nest i made for them! I put it where they usually sleep inside the coop! I put a roof on it because its under the roosting poles and even tho i only have 2 bantams that actually roost on them right now i didnt want them getting pooped on in their sleep, especially if i wind up getting more chickens! It's movable too...that's just the spot they like right now!

I think it will work, awesome! If you find eggs out of it, just add them in there a few days. They will get the hint.

If you can get some vinyl flooring you can cover the top so when the chickens poop it is easy to clean off.

Last night went well with the new bed! They weren in it when I went down there to let em out this morning but i could tell they had been in it! The ducks egg was in my big hens "dirt bath hole" which is filled with wood chips too and a way better spot than on the hard ground! Im going to see if i can find a ceramic egg to put in their new box! I think i have one around here somewhere! Lol!

I use ceramic eggs when training my flock to lay inside rather than out in the yard, pool etc.. They work so well my goose tried to hatch some.

Great news, WTG!!

Thanks! I actually did put the vinyl tiles in top yesterday and i couldn't find a ceramic egg but i went down to our creek bed and found a white rock that looks very similar to an egg an put it in there! All of my feather babies were actually in the coop at around 4:30 tonight so i went ahead and locked em up for the night...that's only 30 min early since the banties will go up in the tree at 5:30 if i don't get em b4 then! The duck and big hen will stay out til dark if i let em but ive been making them live by the bantam time since theyre my early birds! Anyways...i went bk down about an hr later just to check on em and the duck was in the new box! :)
