This is my first time owning baby chicks. Previously, we purchased laying hens. Any ideas one sex and the breed? we purchased all 8 from a local farm and I’ll give you the dates and mom/dad’s potential breeds provided! I would love your thoughts, I know it’s early but I am just dying to learn all I can about these tiny babies! 🥹

1.) they think it’s an Americana mom/RIR dad - hatched 8/22 (5 weeks) Has a very different comb than the others!

1, 3, 4, and 7 may be boys only based off comb development (which isn't a sure bet right now). Really 8 weeks old or so is prime time for guessing gender. Also the second chick may have a bit of a beak issue going on, I see a gap between the top and bottom that really shouldn't be there. Could be cross beak developing. Keep an eye on it make sure it is able to eat properly.

Thanks for pointing that out! I hadn’t heard about that. I’ll definitely keep an eye on it! Here is a picture of the left side. But there definitely appears to be a gap on the right side in just about every picture I took today.
