I hatched these cuties from eggs purchased online from Alabama Silkies. The eggs made a looooong journey here to Idaho and after another couple of days finally came to rest in the incubator. Out of 8 eggs I got 5 babies. They are now almost 8 weeks old. 3 couldn't wait any longer and hatched July 3rd, didn't want to miss out on the fireworks. One finally popped on the 4th and decided it was it's own firework. And the last lil baby was a surprise as the air pocket took up half the eggs. This July 5th babe is the smallest boss of the flock. So now to the birds.

Silkie are super hard to tell esp when young. So I can't tell you if it's a cockerel or pullet but I can tell you what I look for as they mature. I'm not sure if it'll do you any good but I'll share anyways.
What i look for is the stance. Roos tend to stand taller, Pullets almost look squatted. Roos often has little streamers on the top of their heads that stick out past the poof. If they have feathers on the face cheek feathers are more pronounced and bigger wattles. Pullets tail feathers tend to look more pom-pom like than arched. Of course the crow...ha.ha that's always a dead give away.
Attached is a pic of my male and female and you can see clearly the pom pom tail verses a large arching feathering.
