First Timer Baby Pigeon Raising - Won't Open Mouth

He is still very tame. I have been out of town hunting with my dad and my partner has been "mum" for a few days. I come back to see him covered in feathers and eating by himself....most of the time if I am handling him he tries to get a hand-feed though.

He is kind of like a duckling and follows me everywhere. Just squeaking all the way around the yard while I am feeding all my quails and he jumps into my hand when I lower it for him. It is really adorable when I am on the computer and he leaps onto the keyboard and flaps his wings.

Jonathan legs look normal.
How long did you have them hobbled?

The actions you describe reminds me of a squab I hand raised when I was a boy. It met a tragic end.
It tried to gain access inside the house when my brother was coming inside. The squab got caught between the screen door and the jamb when the spring was closing.

I think spayed leg has more to do with genetics than anything else. Just my opinion I have nothing to back it up. Bedding may also play a factor. It has never been an issue in my loft.

You were probably wise to hobble you have excellent instincts when it comes to raising birds.

Oh thank you for the update and especially the picture. I think Johnathan is well on his way to adulthood.

I must confess I under estimated you. I was pleasantly surprised that you were able to raise that squab from and egg.

Something tells me the new arrival you will soon be delivering is in good hands.

Congratulations again.
