Food for thought, Raw Chicken!

Mmmm... not only is the culture and method of prep different, many raw dishes are deep frozen to kill off potential pathogens and then warmed back up to a cool temperature. I love raw fish. HATE cooked types. Unless its cat fish stomach or fish sticks!!!

Boy you all are brave, I can't get myself to eat sushi and I do not want my beef to bleed in the least (a little pink is fine).
I don't know why I am so squimish about that kind of stuff I grew up on a family farm in which we processed all our own pork, beef, chicken, goat and hunted and fished and I helped in the process from start to finish.

This is how I got my brother to eat sushi...

On his birthday his wife and I planned him a surprised party, we brought him blindfolded to a sushi restruant. we ordered quietly and fed him. He enjoyed every bit of the meal...

it was pretty shortlived when we unblindfolded him and he ran into the bathroom

3 days later we went back and he came with us willingly

I don't mind trying different foods but one thing that I won't eat is something that even has the remotest chance of giving me food poisoning. I had a horrible case of it once. I contacted the FDA and they told me that cantaloupe (which is the only thing that I can remember eating) are often transported in the same trucks as chickens and NOT disinfected are often carriers of chicken borne diseases. I was dizzy for two days, the room was spinning, nauseous, couldn't eat, dehydrated, horrible headaches, couldn't even get up the stairs. Who ever would have thought that this could have happened? Now I wash all of my veggies thoroughly and won't even touch a chicken that isn't thoroughly cooked. I understand that different cultures have differing standards for cleanliness but if I remember correctly, a study by Consumer Reports stated that between 40-50% of the chickens sold in supermarkets around our country were infected with some type of salmonella or campylobacter. One lesson was enough for me!

I spent ten days in South Korea and lived on white rice and 7-UP. The Koreans eat raw stuff too. The friends we travelled with visited Japan frequently and told us about another delicacy - Monkey brains! (It gets graphic here) apparently the table seperates (like you are putting in a leaf to lengthen it) but there is a small hole in the center. They put the live monkey's neck in there, so his head is on top of the table but his body is below. Then someone smashes the poor little thing on the head killing it, breaks the skull off and they dig in.

I'm pretty certain it's an urban legend. The Asian country that stars in the legend changes around, but it's always the same story. It's never a first hand account, just "a friend of a friend" etc.

I think your fellow travelers were pulling your leg.

I enjoy Japanese cuisine. They have perfected raw, which is the most healthy way to
eat food. I would try raw chicken but honestly would be a little squeamish at first.

It's all about preperation.
