Greetings,
I'm the proud parent of several ducks and while out walking today, I came across 2 abandoned Canadian Geese walking in between our local railroad tracks.. Both goslings appear to be in great health and don't appear to have any defects. However there was no parents anywhere in site. After looking around to be sure they were abandoned, I decided they needed to saved and proceeded to bring them home. They both chirped and threw a fuss the entire walk, and still now sign of the parents. I couldn't bare the idea of them being hit by the train. So, of course I now have questions. Is there any laws against having Canadian Geese in the state of MN? Will they do OK eating my ducks food? I feed them Nurena Game Bird feed. Also, if they do stay here with me, will they be ok living with my free range ducks? Currently I have an adult male Indian Runner that's nearly 3yrs. old, a 6 month old female Rouen and a 6 month old unknown Black Swede.

Thanks,
Griemar

Oh no- poor babies!
I am not familiar with your local laws, but some places you are allowed to have them "if they show up". They can eat duck feed, but mostly need to graze. My geese all free range with the ducks and chickens and are fine. Except breeding season, some ganders can get rough with other birds. But that is a ways off for you. Good luck with them!

Be careful with the lil goslings and your ducks, they may not take kindly to you bringing home. they will have to be introduced slowly or the gosling could be seriously injured. So nice of you to rescue them.

Well as we had thought, and as you have stated, the ducks are not happy about the gosslings. However, we are beyond impressed with the gosslings behavior. We figured with them being wild, they would be afraid of us. Just the opposite though. They seek us out to cuddle and make the cutest muttering when they are close to us. They actually are more affectionate then our ducks! Now we just need to find out the laws. Don't want to get into trouble :(

You might look and see if there are any wild life rehabbers in your area. It's so easy to fall in love isn't it.

It's hard not to when they actually seek you out and immediately want to cuddle and preen <3

Here's my Canadian gosling I rescued about a mouth ago.

S/he is doing great now with my other birds and gets locked up in the coop with the ducklings and mother duck at night now. I find s/he mostly eats grass and a small amount of poultry starter at night. In my area it's agents the law to own Canadian geese but I just keep it on the down low...

You might want to be careful about the goslings. Here, in the wetlands right behind my property there is a 5,000.00 fine for capturing, collecting (yes we've seen people do this - actually try to catch the babies or collect the eggs!) or hurting a wild canadian goose.
The signs say its a Federal Law, not just a local ordinance or specific to this wetland.

The canadian goose is a protected species and it is a federal law that you can not keep them. I would suggest free ranging them and if caught state that they wont' 'go away'.
