Hey guys....
last night I got home from somewhere later than usual, around 7:20. I went straight to the duck house to lock them up for the night and Gus (one of my ducks) was gon, and all that remained was a pile of feathers! I immediately knew what had happened and ran inside and told my family. We looked at the security camera footage we have, and saw exactly what had happened. It looked like a small fox, but it was dark so I couldn’t tell. Whatever it was just made a beeline for their yard, scrambled over the fence, grabbed Gus, and dragged him of within a few seconds.
It was awful!
It’s all my fault, too. I should’ve had them locked up already. I usually do, but the one night that I’m late, this happens! That fox must have been waiting for this.
I usually let the ducks roam around the yard when I’m home, because they’re always kids in the yard, and I can keep an eye on them. When I leave the house, I put them in their little yard. It was just closed in by a picket fence. I had just bought utility cloth to cover the tops and sides with, but hadn’t had the time to do it yet.
I should’ve called home and had someone lock them up.. I don’t know how I forgot! If I had just done that, Gus would still be here. If you’re still reading this, thanks for reading, and I’m sorry for ranting to y’all. I’m just really upset about this.

Also now Peggy, my other duck, is all alone. I don’t want her to be alone! And the poor baby must be traumatized after seeing Gus dragged away. I just don’t know what to do.

:hugs I’m so sorry for your loss.

You should probably look for a friend for Peggy, until then put an unbreakable mirror in with her to keep her company. Maybe also look into re-enforcing the pen, sometimes you can’t always be there and I’m sure it would give you peace of mind if you knew it was extra secure.

Thanks you for taking the time to comment on lunch post. I’ve been thinking of getting more ducklings, but do you think I should get an older duck since Gus is gone. I wouldn’t stick the ducklings out there immediately of course. They’d be inside a few weeks, and then I’d slowly introduce them to Peggy.

Hello..I have a 4 year long Fox problem. A total secure covered Run is needed. The Fox has been watching and waiting to get the Ducks.
So sorry..The Fox killed three Chickens of mine. Two chicks mid afternoon.. I saw it taking the one only 20 feet infront of me. Had stashed the other dead Chick for later.
They can climb fences and could be right behind you waiting and you would never know.
Get her some friends but never leave them out alone.

I had just ordered the supplies to make their run safer.. but I should’ve done it sooner. And also, I was really surprised it was a fox, because there aren’t many in my neighborhood. By the time i’m finished, that run is going to be a fortress.
