There are several squirrels that are getting on my last nerve hanging on my bird feeders.

I have tried scaring them away by letting out my little dog when i see them.
She chases them away but by 30 minutes they are back and dumping my seed.
I can't afford one of those expensive squirrel proof feeders and i really want them gone.

I heard Fox Urine will scare them away has anyone tried it?

Any other suggestions?

There is a packaged mix you can put on the bird seed. It has pepper in it. Supposedly the squirrels can taste the pepper and don't like it, but it doesn't bother the birds. I've seen it in pet stores where the bird seed is sold. I haven't found any baffle that seems to work; they are agile critters and just work around it. In fact, I have one of those supposedly squirrel-proof feeders made of wire mesh and one squirrel found a way in and was curled up in it happily munching on sunflower seed.

I totally understand i have those feeders that look like a school house and a cabin and the squirrels are chewing on them

If you have birds or other small animals around, do NOT put out fox urine. It will attract Fox and I think even Coyotes.

Go with the hot pepper in the bird seed. Mammals can taste the pepper, but the birds cannot. So they seed will light a squirrels mouth on fire, but the birds won't even worry about it.

Thank You i had no idea it would attract a fox "yikes".
I have very many small animals doves, pigeons, baby ducks, bantams
So attracting fox's would be a very bad idea here.

I will go with the hot pepper mix and put it in the seeds now that you have reassured me it won't harm the birds.

Thanks again

LOL. Yes, fox urine is used by many trappers as a bait lure. So, it attracts fox and is effective. That is what fox urine is created and used for. So in your case, I would avoid it like the plague.

If the hot pepper doesn't work. Look into trapping the squirrels and disposing of them. My great grandfather's most often used past time was shooting squirrels with a .22 out of his garden and pecan trees.

I think your talking about "Squirrel Away" That is junk, IMO. I have used that in the past and even mixed super strong, and those squirrels ate it anyway. I hate squirrels. I have resorted to the BB gun and my trusty border collie mix.

I love all animals. But I swear. Squirrels are little, stealing, demons in fur out to rule the world!

Well i have always saw them as rats with fuzzy tails they can completely destroy bird house's.
My mother had a nice one built by a neighbor it looked like a old plantation house.
The squirrels chewed the holes bigger and tried to make nest in it she had to take it down.

So the mix may not work?
Urine draws in fox's
Now i don't know what to do guess i will just have to remove the feeders.

I'm not going to continue to feed them thats for sure

Okay i think i will try the hot pepper thing and if it doesn't work i will probably just take them down

I'm a lousy shot i would probably shoot the feeder

Then there would be no feeder and the squirrels would probably get a good laugh out of it
