Hi all, I've recently purchased some new girls for my flock... An Austrolorp, a light sussex & a wheaten maran... I've found info on point of lay age for the austrolorp & the sussex but can't find any info on approx what age my maran will begin too lay.. Can anyone help?? Thanks!

Glad you joined us. Sorry, can't answer your question, but welcomes are early and you may get it soon. If not, you can try posting under egglaying/ behavior category. But for my BO's there was a wide variance in age for the 3 and breed info really didn't predict it, but discussion forums did.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I am not sure, but I think Marans start laying around 20 to 22 weeks of age. Most breeds start laying sometime between 5 to 6 months of age. Some birds take to 7 months. I can tell you that Australorps won't lay until they are at least 6 months of age. I never had one lay any earlier. There will be others stopping by here to welcome you to BYC that may know the exact answer to your questions.

Enjoy your flock and welcome to ours!

Thank you :) this helps already... I already have an Araucana, a perkin batam & a isa laying... The sussex is roughly 17 weeks and the australop & maran are 9... My three new girls are currently in their own enclosure and being slowly introduced.. So it's a interesting mix

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. The Marans that I have had started laying from 20-24 weeks old and have beautiful chocolate eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting those eggs.
