After saying over and over again dont soak the egg in cold water I still had someone soak an egg in cold water... it is our second egg so we are newbies... I also said not to wash the egg until we eat it multiple times but as always... I am ignored ... so that is why I am here asking if you can soak an egg in cold water.
I read that it can suck bacteria in. We dont have a rooster so I dont know if that helps or not...
Thanks for the info

Why would anyone soak an egg? 🤷‍♀

Anyway, the good news is that eggs are pretty much either good to eat or bad. Crack it open and if it looks and smells fine then it is probably fine.

If it is greenish, stinky, black, has white mouldy lumps in then don't eat it. Sometimes the yolk collapses too easily into the white and it is all runny instead of thick and just looks a bit weird (just an old egg really), then I don't eat it but it is still probably fine.

I read that washing it helps it be clean when you eat it... Also I read that washing it under cold water can cause the egg inside to shrink causing it to pull in bacteria from the outside

Yes, if you wash it it should be in hot water and only done just before you eat it. Or wash it and refrigerate because you've removed the natural protection. But why soak it in water? That isn't washing.
