Well my story is a beginner story with tragedy and beauty. As a beginner I was very naive picked 3 chicks thought they were all females and then came Rose who we started calling Red because she (we thought) was a Rhode Island Red. “She” was supper curious and outgoing. We became best friend. I had a small coop outside and they ranged free all day. Everytime I would come out he would come out to greet me. We finally thanks to BYC discovered he was as we suspected a rooster. One morning my son goes out to let them out and says Red is horn and Mood (buff) wouldn’t come out. It seemed a raccoon was able to open a hatch and I am assuming he defended the girls and was taken. Onyx ran away to the run and was unharmed and the only survivor. I turned a large dog kennel into an enclousure and placed the coop inside got onyx 2 friends. One was a 3 months old rooster that was not friendly. Finally I decided that I had to raise a rooster to get a docile friendly one. I picked a 2 week old Plymouth Rock that seemed to have a larger comb that all his siblings and named him Rock! I knew after a few weeks he was for sure a roo. He was just so curious and outgoing. They are finally 8-9 weeks old so started to introduce him to the girls. Onyx my 6 month old Australop and Sugar a 5 month old Easter egger. Rock had a brooder companion Brah pronouns “Bruh” (cause my gen z kids as a joke, she is a Brahma). The introductions are going well. He is already submitting Sugar but Onyx is still the top of the Peking order. He is so brave and outgoing. I still miss Red so much. Tonight is their first night at the coop and still nervous. I have a camera with alarm on the roof and one inside the run. I hope Onyx accepts him soon and they can all be friends
