I was out early this morning to pick up a bowl of feed I left for the ducks. Heard something creeping around in the pile of trimmings 😬 no idea what and I didn’t wait around to find out. Made pancakes for the family, then cleaned up the mess and worked on the pantry a little bit. I found some fire roasted tomatoes that I need to use up so I’ll be canning some chili next weekend. I had a ton of tomato paste that I wouldn’t be able to use before it expired too so I spread it on parchment paper and put it in the dehydrator; when dry I’ll freeze it. Attila is broody 🙄 everyone else is up in arms because there’s only one place to lay eggs unless they go find somewhere else less preferable.

I never would have thought you could dehydrate tomato paste, how interesting.

Good ol Attila, keep things riled up
The tomato paste is an easy one because it sticks to the parchment without running. Fruit purée is easy too, I like to dry and add it to smoothies made with mesophilic yogurt. It gives good flavor but doesn’t add extra liquid. Mesophilic yogurt is made at room temp and is more liquid than other yogurts.

Do you make that yogurt yourself? I've never heard of it.

Yes I do. Cultures for Health has Piima yogurt which is made in a jar on your counter. So easy, just mix and let it sit a while until it’s as thick and tart as you want it. If mixing with ice I make juice ice cubes. A little orange juice concentrate, some homemade vanilla, and half a frozen banana :drool

Got a batch of sloppy joe mix canned this morning and cleaned up the kitchen, emptied the dishwasher and started filling again, then went out to take care of the crew. I tossed out some scratch, like in a wide area so the birds couldn’t just swarm it, then managed to get the ducks to follow me to the other side of the yard for peas. They’re very food motivated, but peas are still the key to our relationship :gig Filled one of the feeders and Attila came to eat. She’s still broody crazy, I’m going to make sure she isn’t on a nest tonight and will lock her in the coop. A few cool nights of that will hopefully break her. We have a TON of eggs so I think I’ll send a basket full with Igor tomorrow.
