I did it they way you are, research, planning, and then got my chicks. There will still be lots of surprises once you get going, but it is all so fun!
Make sure you pay attention to the what I wish I had done different, or the top 10 mistakes in coop building - on this site, in texts and other resources. I think the primary thing us newbies do is not realizing how fast they grow and how much room they really need.
