Amish builders came from out of state and built approximately 100 tiny homes to get people out of tents. However they're not being used as local officials are claiming they're not up to code and won't allow people to take shelter in them.
If an Amish-built tiny home isn't up to code, what even is?! Time for a code rewrite. What a lot of tomfoolishness, at others' expense, sadly.

Great roll call update after those molts! Really enjoyed that. Zacchaeus is very brave around lions! 🤣

What is being reported by those "on the ground" is an incredible inability of anything government related to assist in a meaningful way. One single wide trailer has been awarded by FEMA, they released a press notice so it's not a rumor. However they're not being used as local officials are claiming they're not up to code and won't allow people to take shelter in them.

Other charitable organizations are bringing in donated RVs to get people out of tents, bless them. And there's more bureaucratic boondoggle going on with the roads, but I will refrain as I am trying to not get political.

Suffice it to say that the NC government, for the most part, has bungled the response since the day Helene hit.

P.S. If anyone is thinking of donating to relief efforts, PM me. I can tell you which ones I believe will help people more than themselves. Not a solicitation.
Yes this is sad.

All I can say is FEMA=Biggest Ball Of Red Tape I ever dealt with. It was 25 years ago Sept 15-16.

Hubby and I were just discussing this. Looks like after all these years something would have changed for the better. Nope, nothing has changed.

I have cried and got mad over all I know many of our western neighbors are having to deal with. It's hard for me to see and I know it's hard for them to live. It seems the volunteers and the churches are the ones that get in there and make things happen.

It was exactly this way for us.
I pray soon everyone there has a real roof over their heads and daily life gets easier.

So far today I have found 3 eggs in the nest boxes!
:yesss:

Esther hopped up on a perch next to me, and I noticed she's grown a big girl comb!

I suspect that the eggs I'm suddenly getting are from the pullets.
:wee
Yay for Pullets eggs! You'll have eggs for winter:)

They all look good, I love seeing the videos❤️

Cleaned out the chest freezer yesterday, including soup bones and a bag of cooked giblets. I took the cooked turkey liver into the chicken run...
...they went bonkers over the crumbled bits of liver I dropped, and continued to scratch and peck for missed bits long after.

Earlier this morning I bought a small cabbage at the farmers' market. Less than an hour after the liver feeding I divided the cabbage down the middle and offered it to the flock.

All the flock were tearing off bits of cabbage, but I noticed that the hens would snatch cabbage from Zack's beak without any resistance from him. Good Boy!

Flock dynamics noted:
  • No obvious issues between the cockerels :)
  • Zacchaeus appears to be a benevolent Boss Roo over all
  • The older hens have accepted Zack as their leader
  • The older hens pointedly peck at Silas when he gets too close
  • The pullets often flock with Silas, though being nestmates together might have something to do with it
Fascinating.
