Hi I have 13 birds left. Trying to give them valbazen. Someone please tell me how to give them a dose. It would be greatly appreciated.They will not be happy getting picked up. And I have to this alone. Any and all.ideas welcome. Thank you

Gapeworm is fairly rare, could you be dealing with a respiratory disease or canker instead?

Valbazen dosing is 0.08ml per pound of weight given once, then repeated in 10 days.

Go out early while birds are still roosting to give the medication. Grab a bird off the roost, give the medication, then release them.

Are you sure you're dealing with gapeworms? I recommend taking a fecal sample to a vet and have them look at it under a microscope in order to verify it is gapeworms you're dealing with.

Shut them in a shed or cage. Grab them one at a time and firmly grip them around their bodies and wings. Then I usually stick my thumb in the top of the beak, my syringe goes at the back corner and squirt.


I have had gapeworm in my flock… hope they get better OP

Are you sure you're dealing with gapeworms? I recommend taking a fecal sample to a vet and have them look at it under a microscope in order to verify it is gapeworms you're dealing with.

At this point I have medicated them for everything.

Thanks for info. One more question. Someone was doing a video on valbazen and they took the .08 of valbazen and added it to a gal of water then sucked that solution into syringe. So is it straight .08 or diluted like that. Thanks again for info.

I haven’t seen that, but since the dosage is 0.08 ml per kilogram (each 2.2 pounds,) a 2.2 pound chicken would have to drink that whole gallon of water. Also, to be clear, Valbazen will settle out in water, and should be given orally. If she drank that whole gallon, she still probably wouldn’t get the entire dose.

Valbazen dosing is by weight.
So yes, it's straight undiluted at a dose of 0.08ml per pound of weight, given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.

If you're not an early riser you can also dose them at night after they go to roost. Do you have a lot of birds? We have over 20, so what DH and I did was put a band on each bird as we dosed them (a twist tie or zip tie will do) then removed it ten days later when we gave them the second dose. That way we knew which ones had been treated and didn't skip any or accidentally double dose any.
