Gapeworm safeguard paste dose

hi,
I’m giving my chicken Safeguard Equine Dewormer 25 g Paste 10%
For suspected gapeworm. I understand I give a pea size but for how many days? Thank you!

You dose it by ml per pound, which is 0.23 ml per pound (about 1.15ml per average size bird.)
What are you seeing that makes you suspect gapeworm?
Gapes are rare, but the dose is 30 mg/kg for five consecutive days (0.14 ml per pound for five consecutive days)

Sorry, about that, I was referring to this post for information.
Welcome to BYC.

The 0.23 ml per pound dose (50 mg/kg) is correct if you want to treat *all* worms including capillary worms. Note that egg withdrawal is recommended.

This low dose of 0.00454 ml (1 mg/kg) you are referring to is also correct, but it's for treating large roundworms & cecal worms. It will *not* treat capillary worms, gapeworms, etc.

She has been more sleepy for like 3 days then every few min. She will stretch her neck out and open her mouth. She hardly has been making any noise too.

Hoping this video work so you can see what she is doing
To me, it looks like she may have respiratory illness. Are you noticing any mucous from the nostrils or does she have any lesions or canker inside the beak?

Do you detect any bad odors about her face?

I'd consider giving her Tylosin to see if that helps. Do check to make sure her crop is emptying overnight as well.

Ok thank you! My husband said he saw a little mucus in her nostril. We started giving her vet rx and nutri drench. I’ll look into tylosin. Crop seems to be emptying. Thank you. We are new to this so I appreciate the advice!

She is about 14 weeks old, not laying. Feeding her natures best organic chick starter/ grower crumbles. She will also wonder our yard so maybe she ate something there? Her comb is pale but it’s always been like that since we got her. I checked for mites and lice and it doesn’t look like she has any. I’m just stuck 😞
My hen currently has a gapeworms, but does not do all those things she does do some of those things tho. Maybe she has worms plus something else!!!?? 🤷‍♀️
