Same link said it wasn’t always accurateWhat about the coloring is making you think male?
Having a pale, small comb at 9 weeks is usually a good sign of being female![]()

Interesting. I hadn't heard that before, but I'll have to pay attention and see if I spot anything like that in the future.I was reading something about the hackle and head coloring being different then it’s usually a cockerel, but at the same time these ees are the ones that tractor supply sells as “americanas “ so idk what they are a mixture of.

Just to clarify haha I meant the coloring thing I mentioned said it wasn’t always accurateInteresting. I hadn't heard that before, but I'll have to pay attention and see if I spot anything like that in the future.
In this case, I think the overall color pattern is more typical of females than males (taking into consideration how the two colors are distributed in which parts of the chicken.)
The comb or the coloring?
Neither one would be accurate 100% of the time, but pale comb is a very good indicator of female at that age, and so is having a comb that is small compared with others of the same age and comb type. Comparing with a different comb type, or with chicks of a different age, is much more likely to be wrong.
That makes sense. At this age, combs tend to be more reliable than feather color, especially for Easter Eggers that can have almost any color and pattern in their feathersJust to clarify haha I meant the coloring thing I mentioned said it wasn’t always accurate![]()
I had an Easter egger this color and she got red early-at 6 weeks, but was a she, and lays a pretty sage green egg.One could hope! The black and white one makes me question things because of stuff that I’ve read about coloring, but the comb is still so pale and small… I dunno. I guess I won’t know till I get an egg![]()
How exciting!! I’d love a pretty green egg or twoI had an Easter egger this color and she got red early-at 6 weeks, but was a she, and lays a pretty sage green egg.
