Hi all, new-ish to chickens, first time raising day old chicks. I have 8 chicks, all hatched on 9/16, so just over 5 weeks old. 2 black copper marans, 3 silver laced wyandottes, 3 buff orpingtons. All 3 of the BO were slow to feather, 1 I am about positive is a roo. Of the SLW, one was very slow to feather, and they are giving me the most questions of gender. The marans both feathered quickly and look like pullets in my opinion. And help would be great!

They are due to move out of the brooder and into the coop next week! Man they grow fast.

SLW 1 and Buff 2 are the only ones really jumping out at me. Wyandottes tend to pink up early, so don't give up hope just yet.

Definitely check back in in a couple weeks. We like to see how they progress and turn out!
Thanks! That is what I was thinking. I have ambitions overall to keep one roo...may the best man win LOL

I agree that the buff #2 is the only cockerel I’m seeing. Wyandotte cockerels are red and noticeable by 5 weeks while yours are barely pink so pullets.

So far everyone else still looks like a pullet to me...but my roo found his voice a couple days ago LOL he sounds like a broken squeaker toy.

Opinions on if my ladies still look like ladies? And 🤞one gent? They are 8 weeks old.

They have transitioned out to their coop, and full enclosed run (supervised free ranging next year when full grown) They are loving the sunshine and sand bathes, very content already. They all are already in the roosting routine.

The only obvious cockerel I'm seeing is Buff 2. All the others look like lovely pullets.

I bet you were as happy as they were to get outside and out of the brooder!

Yay! That's what I was thinking/hoping. I guess time will be the only true teller.

Soooo happy. My husband can finally reclaim his garage LOL the amount of dust from these chicks in the brooder was unreal. Now I get to enjoy my coffee with them in their run...we are all much happier 💗
