Getting Guineas to go in the coup at night.

Here is a video of my flashlight trained guineas going to bed in my walkout basement, where I raise them as keets. This video is older and those birds are now part of the larger flock. Some night my guineas try to roost in the rafters of my horse barn. I shoe them down with a broom and use the flashlight to direct them to their coop. Once a group of guineas gets the concept of following the light, it is so easy to get the rest of my birds to follow along.

Love your video!

Yeah, for us, too, training them to come home at night was like herding flees for a while but I ended up more persitant than them! Ha! Now I have different age groups in different enclosures, and they all come in and go to their spot - amazing really!

I found that you had to insist with the Guineas - I even caught a few after dark with a net because ours were *not* safe outside (foxes, racoons, coyote, owls, etc.) and I loved them so, I would not sleep if one was out. With time and persistence they learned it and now they are pros at coming in at night - no problem.

Like others said: use treats, watch for door bullies keeping the weaker ones out (I put treats in the back of the coop, away from the door and many locations), consider lights or have them go in before the inside of the coop gets too dark, herd them with herding sticks, keep them locked up a few days can help in certain situations, having nice roosting bars helps and enough space, we used to use a bell to signal going inside, then I just used my voice with the same call every time to save me from having to remember the bell when I got out. "Come! Home, Guinea Guinea!" 😊👍😍🐓🐓🐓
