The other day I was boiling some beans on low and got distracted (a whole 'nother story) Anywho the beans scorched to the bottom of the pan and now the whole house STILL smells smokey.

How do I get the smell out? We have ceramic and crappy hardwood floors so at least there is no carpet to hold the smell in.

Did I mention my 16 year old was snoozing on the couch the whole time they were burning?

Thank goodness it is in the 50-60's the next couple of days.

Also any ideas how to get the scorch marks off the bottom of the pan? It is one of my favorite pans

I always use baking soda----put a thick layer of baking soda in the pan & run enough water on it to make a thick paste & let it set overnight.
The next day add some more water & a splash of vinegar, bring it to a boil & you should be able to get the burnt stuff out of it. You may have to repeat this 2-3 times to get all of it out, but if you be patient, it can be done.

For the burnt odor in the house, slice up a couple of lemons, bring them to a boil in a pot of water, then pour into several bowls & set out around the area for a few hours & that should help.

Ok I will try that. I did use some ketchup and then an SOS pad and that helped a lot but did not get it totally clean - just usable.

Gotta run to the store so I will pick up some lemons. My brother is coming from Claifornia tonight and I want the house to smell purty.

About a month ago, my ds scorched a pan of mac and cheese when he turned the heat on under it and went to play the Wii. The only thing that saved the pan was an SOS pad. I tried everything before that, and nothing else worked. As far as the smell in your house, good luck with that. I think only time and fresh air will take care of that.

Vinegar is AWESOME.!!! Not only does it get rid of stains on stainless steel, but when you cook it (on LOW, LOL) it gets rid of the burnt smell. That is unless you don't care for the smell of vinegar

I went to take the trash out and noticed my neighbor was acting goofy on her front step, hanging with her son. Said hello then came to find out she had drank a whole bottle of cough syrup. I had her son go find the bottle so I could see exactly what she had and then had him keep an eye on her the rest of the night. He is almost 14 and a really GOOD kid.

That was my distraction and the beans were on low - just ran out of water.

I use rock salt. Put a heap in the bottom of the pan and add a little water. Then get a scouring pad and it should come off fairly easily,

Poor man's potpurri - simmer some applesauce and cinnamon on the stovetop for about 30 minutes. Add water to it so it won't crust up. Also tonight when you go to bed, leave a few bowls of ammonia in the kitchen - it absorbs odors.

Those MR Clean scrubbing erasers work pretty good on burnt pans... I should know, I get plenty of practice! DH says he knows when dinners ready cause the smoke alarm always goes off (it's actually super sensitive, which is fine).

They're also good for cleaning out super slimy dog food bowls!

Hot water and a dryer sheet sitting overnight, in the pot..

Lemon works great for getting rid of smells... Or you could just have some fried fish, this will help get rid of burnt smell in house..
