Hello, my babies are between 3 to 4 weeks. They are silkies! I was wondering how I could get them more tame, I talk to them and they talk back, when they hear me they beep A lot. I was wondering if it’s where they are so young, is why they are still skittish. When I hold them, they are so sweet and calm, they even go to sleep. Just when I walk by their tub, or put my hand it there at first they go crazy, and I have to chase them to hold them. 1 is more hyper then the other.

What’s some good signs they are getting used to you?

And suggestions to get them MORE used to you.

I also scoop them up when I get them, I very rarely grab them from above.

If they are are roosters, you might not know right now, i heard this somewhere, if you handle them a lot they will get used to you and more Comfortable With you and be more comfortable to attach. With chicks that are just always skittish, but once you hold them often and they get older, (13-18weeks to older) they will get more used to you but some might not and they still might be scared. As much as you hold them they will either be tame or may not be. Once they get older though, they will be a lot more tame.

Now all of this is from my experience it may be different for other people.

Good luck! :thumbsup

I don’t handle my chicks much(Silkies). I sit with them and talk. Sit on the floor and offer chick crumble from your hand, but I don’t chase them unless I have to check for a health issue. Mine get friendly and tolerant of holding at about 4-5 months, at this time I can pick them up, hold them, do health checks and they will sit a while. The only aggressive rooster I had was from my first hatch of chicks and we held him a lot.
My chicks are also moved from inside brooder to coop brooder at a week old, so they also see the adults chickens trust us and learn from them.
