Hi guys

My wife and I recently installed a new quail pen out the back so we can increase our quail numbers. It has been dubbed the quail palace lol.

Anyways we want to purchase and incubate about 36 hatching eggs. The problem is we are not sure which breed to go for.

We currently have half a dozen Jumbo Japanese (started off with more but processed males for the table). We have been really happy these.

However I recently came across Giant Golden quail and from what I understand they can be up to 2oz larger than their Jumbo cousins?

Has anyone here owned both breeds before or can you comment on one vs the other?

I was wondering what Giant Golden are like to keep. Do they produce bigger eggs? Do they lay as many as Jumbos? Are they as easy to care for?

Any advice would be majorly appreciated!

Any takers on this one? I know its a bit generalized but even some info on those owning giant golds would be great. Ta

I raise them. I wouldn't say they are larger than the other colors of coturnix though. I love the color and very soon will have these exclusively.

Edited to add. They are like raising any other quail. Just as tame as with every other coturnix, and besides the color, their eggs are basically the same as with any other coturnix hen :)

Cool. Thanks ever so much for letting me know. Thinking of getting these next and phasing out the browns too. Cheers, paddy
