Gift for hostess of thanksgiving dinner?

I always take a hostess gift, even for family. I took some pretty hurricane candles and let my MIL & SIL pick the color they wanted. Not that either of them deserved, but as a curtesy for the money put out accomadating my brood.

How about a bunch of snack food - nuts, fruit, cheese & crackers - a few bottles of wine, a pretty flowering plant and lots of fresh eggs?

I agree - when someone is knocking herself out to make sure your holiday is splendid, cooking and cleaning for days, you just got to show up with something appreciative. And you are going to offer to wash every dish, right?

wildsky..i know its tough!..i try to either make a nice dessert(that i know everyone will appreciate) or a more personal gift for the host..(.if its someone you know well..)..i try to think about what they are like..what their personality is about..what they are into (i.e., chickens, quilting, cooking)....it can be very tough though!..

Go to Walmart - they have potted plants and nice pots on clearance.

Add in a dozen eggs and something sweet for them to have when everyone is gone and they are alone.

My MIL always brings me a hostess gift. Last year was a pumpkin shaped soup tourine and bowls from William Sonoma. As well as a basket of goodies from Trader Joe's.

We don't have a Trader Joe's close to us.

Why not make a small gift basket? Fresh eggs...did you can jams or jellies? Add a few in there. Maybe some fresh bread...or cheese and crackers. How about a box of sweets. Doesnt have to be Chocolates...whatever they like. Maybe " gifts in a jar"? Could be cookie, cake, or brownie mixes.
