Goat losing hair and itching around neck

Hello my goat is losing hair in patches around his neck and side of face. He won’t stop itching. It now has red lesions. The hair looks like it was cut short in the patched areas- not completely gone. I tried python dust all week. I got a eqyss spray to stop itching but nothing works. Does anyone know what this could be ? And what product to use? I thought mites but I would think python dust would work as it worked well on the lice they had early spring. My other goat seems fine only a patch on his nose- I python dusted and he isn’t itching nor is it spreading. Attached pics. thanks

Most likely goat lice or another type of mite. There are oral or coat medications you can give them specifically to get rid of lice. You can check by pulling their fur back and seeing if there are any small bugs around there.

Thanks I did read this already and nothing seems to apply it’s mainly sheep. He doesn’t have any crusting or bumps it’s just clear hair loss and itching with no sign of movement from lice or anything I checked his whole body. Thanks

Hey thanks I assumed a mite because when they had lice early spring they did not lose hair and the python dust did work which it’s not this time. The lice were all over body too not just head and both had it. I could clearly see the lice they both don’t have lice right now though I checked pretty thoroughly. I researched so much on lice and tried DE first then python dust and it finally worked once the weather was high temp

There are two types of lice. Sucking, and biting. The biting lice is usually what makes them itch and they usually occupy a goat near winter. I still think that’s what your goat has, just not as severe as you said they had last time they had lice. When you see them visibly with barely looking, the lice have bred too much and you should have stopped it when it’s at the stage they are now. I suggest using the product in the link above to help with the itching, and a lice repelant.

I still think that’s what your goat has, just not as severe as you said they had last time they had lice. When you see them visibly with barely looking, the lice have bred too much and you should have stopped it when it’s at the stage they are now. On thanks my tsc doesn’t have it so I’ll have to order and wait. I could get that ivermectin today that I read kills lice besides just being dewormer ?

I haven’t heard much about that Ivermecton, but if there are safe for goats you might be able to use it.
