Where did you get the eggs?
Golden comets are a mixed breed hybrid. That means even if the parents are both golden comets the chicks won't come out all the same. I don't believe either parent used to make them is dark though.
Can you post a few pictures of the chicks?
What do you think, are the light ones? I don't know about comets, i do know they are light colored at hatch.Yeah those dark ones are definitely not Comets. Cute as heck but not Comets.
You probably right. Don't know anything about them, bought the eggs at auction as Golden Comet, everyone isn't honest but that's the chance you take when you buy at auction. I know.Where did you get those eggs? What rooster is the father of those chicks? What can you tell us about his color and breed background?
Gold Comet is just a marketing name. Different hens and roosters can be used to make them. All the hens that can be used have the Silver gene and all the roosters have to have the Gold gene. And they have to have the other genetics that you can see the Silver or Gold in the chicks at hatch. If either parent had Black you would not be able to see the Silver or Gold in the chicks.
My first guess is that the rooster that fathered those chicks is a cross or mixed breed that has some black genetics and some that give red chicks. He is probably mostly black but you cannot rule out white.
My other guess is that those are not all from Gold Comet eggs.
The hens were probably Golden Comets then but the rooster was not.You probably right. Don't know anything about them, bought the eggs at auction as Golden Comet, everyone isn't honest but that's the chance you take when you buy at auction. I know.
